Garry Shandling’s doctor refuses to sign death certificate, coroner’s office to investigate cause of death

Garry Shandling’s doctor is reportedly mystified as to why the beloved standup died — and his refusal to sign the death certificate has spurred the coroner’s office to investigate.
Shandling’s physician has “repeatedly refused” to sign the document because he believed the “Larry Sanders Show” creator — whom he hadn’t examined in more than a year — to be in fine physical condition, TMZ reported Saturday
As a result, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has subpoenaed the comedian’s medical records and collected blood work from the emergency room at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, where Shandling was pronounced dead Thursday morning.

Redcar murders: Man charged over women's deaths

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering two women within minutes of each other in separate attacks.
Alan Bennett, of Lingholme, Redcar, was at Teesside Magistrates' Court for the short hearing during which he confirmed his name and address.
He is accused of murdering Lynne Freeman, 46, and 30-year-old Jodie Betteridge, on Wednesday evening.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Teesside Crown Court on 29 March.
Police were called to Mapleton Crescent, where Mrs Freeman lived on Wednesday evening, then seven minutes later to Ms Betteridge's address in Byland Close.
Ms Freeman's children Sarah Helm, 28, James Helm, 27, Kimberley Helm, 25 and Lauren Freeman, 18, previously said in a statement: "We shouldn't have to be writing a tribute to our mother who was taken from us so early. She should still be here to watch her four kids and grandkids grow."
In tribute to Ms Betteridge, Theresa Largan, 51, said: "Jodie lived for her kids. I don't think I ever saw her on her own, she always had the tribe with her."

Paige Doherty death: Man in court on murder charge

A 31-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 15-year-old Paige Doherty.
John Leathem made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody at a private hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
Paige's body was found in a wooded area just off Great Western Road in Clydebank at lunchtime on Monday.
The teenager was last seen near a deli a week ago after setting off for her part-time hairdressing job.
The case against Mr Leathem was continued for further examination and he is expected to appear in court again next week.
Meanwhile, a memorial event arranged on social media for the teenager is due to be held at Whitecrook Park in Clydebank.

'Fitting tribute'

Police said it would be "fitting tribute to Paige", but urged people not to let off Chinese lanterns because the park is in the flight path of Glasgow Airport.
It comes after the landmark Titan Crane in Clydebank was lit up in pink on Thursday evening in memory of Paige.
Provost Douglas McAllister said: "Our community is in shock at this tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with Paige's family and friends.
"This is a small gesture of support for everyone who knew Paige."
Two fund-raising pages to help her family meet funeral costs and other expenses collected more than £14,000 a day after they were set up.
